Who is Jesus?

Today we are starting a new series of ‘Who is Jesus?” with the theme ‘The Christ’ from Matthew 16: 13-20. Next week’s theme is ‘The Lamb of God’ from John 1: 19-34.

World Aids Sunday

Yesterday was World Aids Day, so this morning we will be spending some time to reflect and pray for those affected by HIV and AIDS.

Advent Worship

Come along for a special Advent Evening at 6.30pm in the Institute, when Dave will be leading us in worship to greet the Advent season. We will be considering the first of our special Advent Series, ‘Who is Jesus?’, ‘The Christ’. Refreshments from 6.15pm.

Help light up the streets

Help us get the message of Christmas out to our community by joining in with our better brighter Carol Bus this week. We would love more helpers to go out with the bus and hand out leaflets and chocolates on Thursday 6th, Friday 7th, Saturday 8th and Monday 10th December.  Please sign up on the board and come along to the church on the relevant evening to start at 6.30pm.

Join in Prayer Meeting

The weekly prayer meeting focussing on the Interregnum is this Friday, 7th December, 7-8pm in the Institute. Please join us.

Prayer meeting Tuesday

The prayer meeting this Tuesday, 3rd December, will be at Kevin’s house at 9am.

Guest preacher

Next Sunday morning we will be welcoming Rev Adam Pitt, Curate at St Barnabas, Southdown, who will be preaching and leading our Holy Communion.

Church Christmas card

There’s just a few days left to sign up to our Church Christmas Card which is given out to all church members. Rather than buy and send individual cards to other church members, have your own Christmas message printed in our special card that’s given out to everybody.  You should have received a form with this noticesheet to return to the office by this Tuesday 4th.

Christmas choir Thursday

Choir rehearsals for our Christmas Carol Service continue this Thursday at 7.45pm in the Institute. Please come along. All are welcome to join in, no experience required.

Daytime Housegroup

Good Companions daytime housegroup meets this Tuesday, 2.30pm in the St James’ Lounge.

Good Companions

This Wednesday, 5th December, Good Companions are out for lunch leaving church at 11.15am.

Come and help with crib

Community groups in Odd Down are painting animals which will form part of a Community Crib outside the church in the lead up to Christmas.  We are holding a launch event on Wednesday 12th December for the whole community and we need helpers to serve drinks and help with crafts.  Please see Andy and sign up on the evangelism board.

Coffee, Cake … & Butties!

Take a break from Christmas and relax at our coffee, (tea) & cake morning on Saturday 15th December, 10am-12 noon in the church. No need for breakfast because Jim will have delicious bacon butties on offer! Proceeds will go towards rebuilding the tailoring project in Pudukkottai after the devastating cyclone.

Elsies celebrate

In February next year the Rhenish church in Elsies River, Cape Town, will be celebrating 30 years of the ministry of Tommy and Pat Solomon’s. A team from St Philip’s will be attending in recognition of the long partner-ship between us and the contribution they have made to our ministry. The team will be contributing to services and local community meetings in Elsies River as well as joining in the celebrations. Please see Jim Davis for more details.

Helping Ugandan children

Only two more Sundays to buy cards and gifts to help our children in Uganda… don’t forget the bookmark gift makes a meaningful present for your child.

Help for South India

Two weeks ago a devastating cyclone hit Tamil Nadu, badly damaging towns and villages including Pudukkottai, where our Indian partners, Stanley and Karuna live. They set up and facilitate community projects for the most discriminated against and poorest in society. Damage to a tailoring project in Karuna’s house has meant 15 men and their families from rural areas have no work. Please come to our coffee and cake morning (below) and pray for Karuna and Stanley as they support those most affected.  Karuna’s son, Richard, is a member of our congregation.

Cakes wanted

We would love offers of homemade cakes and sweets to sell at our Coffee and Cake (and Bacon Butty!) morning on Saturday 15th December. (See notice above). If you can offer something please let Gill or Jim know and bring it along on the day, preferably for 9.30am. Many thanks!

Men: sign up and pay

If you wish to come on our Men’s Weekend please sign up on the evangelism board and pay your £20 deposit soon. We are staying at Lulworth Cove, Dorset from Friday 1st to Sunday 3rd February 2019. It’s £60 all inclusive (except Saturday pub lunch) or free to an invited guest(s) - don’t let money be an issue. Please hand your deposit in to the Church Office.

Vacancy Update

Currently work is being done to analyse the responses to our recent church survey.  A report will be made to the PCC Meeting o 11th December and the results will inform our Parish Profile. On Saturday 19th January at 10am we will be holding a morning for all church members to look at the outcomes of the church survey and the other ones conducted in the local community.  Please pray for the team who are heading up this work.

Pastoral care

During the Interregnum it is really important that we care for each other. If you notice someone is missing from church then please tell us. If anyone is going into hospital, is sick or needs extra support or care please let Margaret or one of the Pastoral Team know.

Giving Thanks

Thank you to everyone for your responses to our recent giving appeal. We had approximately 45% returned and this has resulted in a significant increase in giving that should enable the PCC to set a balanced budget for 2019. Thank you again for your continued commitment to the work of our church.
"Everything comes from you, and we have given you only what comes from your hand.” 1 Chronicles 29: 14.

Thanks for service

Dan and Rach and family would like to pass on their gratitude to everyone who made Tony's celebration service a wonderful occasion. From those who attended to all those who worked so hard behind the scenes (setting up, music, making/serving refreshments, packing away), we can’t thank you all enough for making it really special for our family.
